ABOUT


The University of Nigeria Students Bar Association (UNSBA) is a professional body of all law students who have been called to the University of Nigeria Students Bar. UNSBA, which was established since 1987, making it the first student bar association in Nigeria, currently has over a thousand members.

The association which is modeled after the NBA, seeks to uphold integrity and the highest standard of professional conduct and has major objectives of developing law students towards the path of professional excellence through its diversified programmes such as moot and mock trial competitions, legal debates, court and prison visitations, seminars and lectures and other activities.

The Bar Association is run by the Supreme Council which the highest decision making body. The Council which is chaired by the President of the Association consists of the ultimate members of the Bar who have been conferred with the rank of Senior Advocates or have been appointed Managing Partners of their chambers.
Membership of the Association is attained upon success in the bar exams and payment of requisite fees.
UNSBA has undoubtedly remained the standard of quality evident from its successes in various national and international competitions. Some of such recent successes include:
  •          Winner of the Project Innovative Youth Tax Summit 2017
  •     1st Runner up at the CJN Nationals 2017
  •    1st Runner up, B.E.I. Nwafor, SAN Moot Competition 2017
  •    2nd Runner up at the NULAI Client Counseling and Interview Competition
UNSBA is also notorious for organizing some of the most monumental legal events in the world of student bar practice in the South East and indeed Nigeria. Some of which include:
  •   The Legal Employability Summit, [ which has attracted so many prominent personalities like A.B. Mahmoud, SAN ( former President of the NBA) and numerous other Senior Advocates of Nigeria, managers of some of the top tier law firms in the Nation, renowned academics and National honorees]
  • Various Legal writing contests like the Nonso Azih Legal Essay Contest, The Christian Aniukwu Prize for Advocacy and others
  • UNSBA also has to its credit, the publication of an annual journal, THE LEGALOGUE with standards second to none.
  •  To its credit also, UNSBA has also published a translation of the Fundamental Human Rights contained in Chapter Four of the 1999Constitution ( as amended) in Igbo language;  the first of its kind.
UNSBA operates from its Secretariat, The Hon. Justice Mary Odili Moot Court Complex one of the largest Student Bar Secretariats in Nigeria.
